The Translation Project, in a broad sense, is an ongoing commitment—even in shortage of fame and fluency—to the exchange, translation, publication and presentation of works by contemporary poets living and writing in countries throughout the world. The translation of work by emerging poets from diverse cultures is an incredibly valuable, and unfortunately lacking, element of the culture at large. In a continually expanding global culture, translation work becomes a more and more important process (with an emphasis on the process and less on the precision) in breaking down the currently entrenched boundaries of language and culture. Volume I of The Translation Project was the first release from Brothel Books and contains the exchanges between two communities of writers, The Poetry Brothel in New York City and her sister organization, Prostibulo Poetico, in Barcelona, who translated each other’s new and original work on a monthly basis for one year.
