June 2026 Poetry Prompts For Every Zodiac Sign: 12 Creative Writing Prompts

Looking for some writing inspiration and poetry prompts this month? Whether you are struggling with writer’s block or simply need prompts to spark new ideas, these zodiac inspired poetry prompts offer each sign a chance to turn their inner personality into a beautiful verse. From Aries to Pisces, each prompt is designed to help you discover and write a new poem this month!

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Prompt: The First Spark

Aries are known for their fiery passion and preferring action over overthinking. This month, Aries should attempt to write a poem that begins in the middle of an action. Someone or something could be leaving, arriving, breaking, shouting, or running. Let the action guide the rest of your poem!

Bonus Challenge: Structure your poem in a way that reflects the action you are describing.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Prompt: Appreciating Aesthetics

Taurus often appreciate life’s beauty and sensory experiences. This prompt calls on you to choose an ordinary object in your room and describe it using all five senses without naming the object until the final line.

Bonus Challenge: Do not name the object at all and have a reader guess what you wrote about.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Prompt: Two Voices

Geminis are symbolized by twins and thrive in shifting environments. For this prompt, write a dialogue between two versions of yourself. They might be gossiping, arguing, or reminiscing.

Bonus Challenge: Make it hard for the reader to side with either voice.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Prompt: Sixth Sense

Cancers are often associated with inherent intuition and emotional awareness. They instantly pick up on others’ unspoken emotions and are sensitive to the atmospheres of their environments. Write a scene that focuses on what is unsaid. Describe the scene through gestures, silences, glances, or objects.

Bonus Challenge: Write your poem in two different POVs and see which works better.

Leo (July 23-August 22)
Prompt: The Sun’s Shadow

Leos rise with the sun and love the light, but light also creates shadows. Write a poem about literal shadows or figurative ones, such as your flaws. Treat these shadows as essential parts of the scene or feelings you are describing.

Bonus Challenge: Include an unusual metaphor.

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

Prompt: Instructions For An Abstract Task

Virgos are often practical and analytical and take pride in being problem solvers. For this prompt, write a procedural poem, such as how to catalog your dream or repair a terrible day.

Bonus Challenge: Number your steps.

Libra (September 23-October 22)

Prompt: The Scales

Libras are masters of seeing both sides and weighing their options. Write a poem around a compromise. Put two seemingly unrelated things in conversation, like the roar of the subway and a seashell, and see where their conversation takes you.

Bonus Challenge: End the poem with a question.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Prompt: What Lies Beneath

Scorpios value their privacy and keep secrets close to their chests. Choose or imagine a secret and explore its shape, weight, color, and feeling without ever revealing what the secret actually is.

Bonus Challenge: Do not use the word “secret” in your poem.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

Prompt: The Journey

Sagittarians are defined by their thirst for freedom and endless exploration. Write about a journey whose purpose is unknown. You can focus on the detours, pit stops, discoveries, wrong turns, and more.

Bonus Challenge: Include an imagined place.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

Prompt: The Art Of Paying Attention

Capricorns often have deep discipline and quiet resilience that can go unnoticed by others. Write a poem dedicated to a form of labor that often goes unnoticed, such as sweeping or making your bed.

Bonus Challenge: Use an often forgotten poetic device like a portmanteau (combining two or more words to create a new word with a blended meaning, such as brunch)

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

Prompt: Message From The Future

Aquarians are visionary thinkers with a deep love for humanity. Write a poem set in the future. The speaker could have advice for the reader or could describe the future state of humanity.

Bonus Challenge: Create one future object, place, invention, etc. in your poem.

Pisces (February 19-March 20)

Prompt: Dream Logic

Pisces are defined by their sweeping imagination and dreamy nature. For this prompt, write a poem that drifts into dreamlike territory where the ordinary rules of reality no longer exist.

Bonus Challenge: Set the poem in the moment before waking up.

Whether you write according to your zodiac sign or choose a prompt at random, hopefully these inspire your next poem! If you are looking for more inspiration, check out PSNY’s upcoming events and workshops.
